AI Customer ServiceAn ATES system was employed to store the thermal energy for a residential complex, located in Tehran, Iran. Three different alternatives were considered, employing numerical simulation based on the finite difference method. For 3-D discretization in all directions the fractional step and Crank–Nicolson methods were used.
When ATES is employed for thermal energy storage for cooling alone, a COP of 10.36 was obtained. When ATES is coupled with a heat pump for thermal energy storage for both cooling and heating of the buildings, a COP of 17.2 is obtained for the cooling process and a COP of 5 was obtained for the heating process.
