AI Customer ServiceIn recent years, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries have been widely used in the electric vehicle industry. The recycling of spent LFP will be propitious to conserving resources and alleviating the environmental risks it poses. In this study, a selective extraction method for lithium from spent LFP was proposed using nitric acid.

The recycling of retired power batteries, a core energy supply component of electric vehicles (EVs), is necessary for developing a sustainable EV industry. Here, we comprehensively review the current status and technical challenges of recycling lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
Among LIBs, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are becoming increasingly popular in the electric transport sector, since they high stability, increased safety and lower reliance on critical raw materials (Saju et al. 2023), indeed they will exceed 30% of market share by 2030 (Wood Mackenzie 2020).
Selective extraction of Li from spent lithium iron phosphate using nitric acid. Iron and phosphorus are first dissolved, then precipitated again. The oxidation reaction of Fe plays a crucial role in selective extraction. Temperature and H + concentration affect the oxidation and re-precipitation of Fe.
