According to the data released by China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, the total output of power batteries is 70.6Wh, of which ternary batteries have the highest output and the highest percentage (see Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3). Sodium batteries can use cathodes made from relatively cheap metals, such as manganese and iron, but these too have a lower level of performance than NMC cells. A number of battery-makers including China’s CATL, the world’s biggest, are already setting up production lines for sodium cells.
In 2020, we have kept the system energy density of power batteries and other technical indicators unchanged, and moderately improved the energy consumption of NEVs and the purely electric driving range threshold of pure electric passenger cars.
