The CdS/CdTe stack is typically given a postdeposition CdCl 2 heat treatment which enables grain enhancement, reduces the defect density in the films, promotes the interdiffusion between CdS and CdTe layers, and thereby improves solar cell efficiency. However, many associated factors degrade the ideal efficiency and achieved efficiencies are lower.
