In 2022, 194 electrochemical storage stations were put into operation, with a total stored energy of 7.9GWh. These accounted for 60.2% of the total energy stored by stations in operation, a year-on-year increase of 176% (Figure 4).
Energy storage and utilization could be revolutionized by new technology. It has the potential to assist satisfy future energy demands at a cheaper cost and with a lower carbon impact, in accordance with the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) and the Paris Agreement.
Investing in research and development for better energy storage technologies is essential to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, reduce emissions, and create a more resilient energy system. Energy storage technologies will be crucial in building a safe energy future if the correct investments are made.
