The first solar units from CHN Energy’s 1GW offshore PV project have connected to China’s energy grid. Developed by CHN Energy’s Guohua Energy Investment, the offshore PV project is located 8km off the eastern coast of the city of Dongying and spans approximately 1,223 hectares.
This marks the completion and operation of the largest grid-forming energy storage station in China. This energy storage station is one of the first batch of projects supporting the 100 GW large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases nationwide.
On March 31, the second phase of the 100 MW/200 MWh energy storage station, a supporting project of the Ningxia Power’s East NingxiaComposite Photovoltaic Base Project under CHN Energy, was successfully connected to the grid. This marks the completion and operation of the largest grid-forming energy storage station in China.
This project is one of the first batch of large-scale wind and photovoltaic base projects in China, located within the Talatan Photovoltaic and Thermal Power Park in Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province, which is one of the most solar-rich regions in China.
In this case, the cost advantage of solar PV could be further amplified. The decline in costs for solar power and storage systems offers opportunity for solar-plus-storage systems to serve as a cost-competitive source for the future energy system in China.
