Battery components Generally speaking, a battery consists of five major components. An anode, cathode, the current collectors these may sit on, electrolyte and separator, as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 2. Interestingly, in present times, unless explicitly specified otherwise, the term "battery" universally refers to electrochemical cells used for generating electrical energy, and even a single cell is now referred to as a battery.
